1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models, this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop that has 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, Best Robot Hoover fills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the amount of dirt they are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuums with mop vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a good automatic vacuum and mop robot cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuum cleaner uk vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
