It is easier to push, and lighter to kerb-pop (you cannot underestimate how many times you'll do that as a brand new parent!).

The capacity for 3 wheelers is impressive and there are many different options to pick from. The carrycot that comes with it is ideal for a newborn (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a cozy and comfortable lying-flat bed that can be used both in and out of the buggy). Older children and toddlers will love the spacious and padded seat unit with adjustable ventilation. It is important to note that the seats don't recline fully however, they can be lowered to the lowest level which will give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A fabric sling seat is also available, which is set snugly inside the frame instead of over the top of an open-back seat. This gives a lower centre of gravity and perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this style of seat dealt with challenges.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are designed to provide your child with more comfort while riding by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. They're commonly found on pushchairs like the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to offer "an outstanding ride for my toddler". She also noted that the grippy tires of the Phil and Ted's Sport made it easy for her to maneuver around the kerbs as well as other obstacles.

They can be difficult to maintain their inflation and must be filled regularly. They are also more prone to punctures than foam tyres so it is essential that you have a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump on hand when you are you're out and about in your buggy.

PU tyres can be used on pushchairs because they are a cheaper option than air-filled tyres, but they are just as durable. PU tires are easily distinguished by their matte finish and soft feel. They also slide on flat and tidy surfaces.

You can usually discern the distinction between air-filled and PU tyres by running your hand over each one, if it feels hard, then it's a rubber tyre, and when it slides, it's a PU. You can also test whether your buggy is equipped with PU tyres, by sliding them on a flat, clean surface. They should roll smoothly and fit comfortably into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are often used in high-performance buggies as well as joggers since they are able to cope with the rough terrain that's common to this type of pushchair. The downside is that the foam could expand and cause your buggy to feel less stable as it loses its springy nature. You'll also find that these kinds of tyres can frequently be noisy, as they generate lots of noise when you turn and navigate your way around the town.
