Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet style of the previous albums. It was a more ferocious, consistent effort that had an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the development of the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing proficiency was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard playing was also more sophisticated, sharper and less akin to previous recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded their Amsterdam live show that was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between.
