WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item level upgrade that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will display an item's preview when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item level upgrade (straight from the source) upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and some new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a particular level for an item upgrader kit in an armor slot, upgrading further items to that same item level will cost less even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for gear with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it brings some changes to the upgrade process. For example, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they only have one use. For instance it's Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
