Three Wheeled Buggies

Figures have just been released that show that the three-wheeled buggy which was a symbol of the decade of more money than sense is in a decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that can handle a wider variety of terrain, yet still look elegant and easy to push.

The bigger the wheels are the more your buggy will be able to deal with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and 3 year old and found it was able to withstand cobbles, grass, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt sturdy to push, and very solid on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasionally pumping) have suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my children.

Another thing to take into consideration is the size and shape. You will want it to be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also require it to recline for them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer a full lie-flat option while others only allow for the parent to be facing one.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability when driving over rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for off-road buggies. They also make it easier to navigate the pushchair 3 wheels through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature swivel front wheels to help you navigate around tight corners, while others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This is particularly useful when you crash into the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will lift slightly to avoid hitting it.

Many 3 wheel pushchairs wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures so you'll need a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.

The downside of having bigger wheels is that they make buggies quite large and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This can be problematic if you intend to use it as a jogger, or need to fit through narrow doorways while traveling. Fortunately, the majority of models come with small folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to manoeuvre

One of the primary benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it can be much easier to maneuver especially with a child in tow. They are designed so that the front wheels turn on a dime, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for difficult terrain like parks, cobblestones, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried an all-wheeler with her toddler, and she wrote: "The Terrain is a joy to maneuver on rough terrain. The swivel wheel front was particularly useful." I was also impressed by how well it dealt with kerbs, especially when using the brake operated by hand. It was very stable in the downhills or on a rough terrain."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3-wheel buggy may make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you need to keep in mind when your home is a city. If this is a problem, a 4-wheel buggy might be better for you.
