It also has cliff sensors to ensure that it doesn't fall off stairs and optical encoders that measure how far it has cleaned.

The Matrix is a fantastic choice to anyone looking for a mid-range robotic vacuum. It might not come with the advanced vSLAM map that is found in the Roomba S9 but it still has plenty to offer. This Roomba model doesn't come with a top-mounted camera that can recognize objects or look for features that are unique to be aware of as some of its more premium siblings do. Instead, it utilizes downward-facing optical sensors to see obstacles when they arise, builds up an outline of your floor plan when it goes through cleaning cycles, and pays close attention to internal sensors like wheel odometers and gyroscopes. iRobot's Genius update, which adds smart mapping to the robot, without increasing its cost it allows you to control it through the iRobot app or your voice assistant to clean specific areas.

If this Roomba is full of dirt--and it can be triggered to do so by the app or by its docking station itself--it returns to its home base and emptys its internal trash bin into the larger external one. The docking station and the robot communicate via beacons to ensure they're in a close proximity prior to the robot's start of cleaning.

You can also schedule cleanings using the iRobot Home app or use your voice assistant to request the cleaning of any space that requires urgent attention. It's a neat, tidy method to empty the bin of your robot vacuum and saves you the hassle of lifting out the old bin and letting it go flying around (which typically results in small dust explosions). This top-rated model comes with a minimal operating cost. You'll need to replace the bag each when it's full. They're not expensive, but you may feel bad throwing them away.

You can start cleaning your home right after pairing the i7+ with its Clean Base, or you can tell it to do some exploratory training exercises without vacuuming first to create an outline of your floor. Once you have a map of your space, you can use iRobot's app to label rooms and build virtual barriers. You can also create specific cleaning times for certain rooms.

The i7+ robot vacuum is a high-end model. It's powerful and comes with all the features you'd expect from a house automation device however, it's costly and difficult to justify. The competition is cheaper and includes features like the Roborock S7, which feels more durable, has lower costs for recurring expenses, has a longer maximum runtime and does a better job on bare floors than the i7+.
