1. Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO has a sleek matte gray top, which resembles fabric and minimizes fingerprints. Smart mapping technology creates a map of the home with the help of advanced sensors. This helps it clean rooms and avoid obstacles. You can also set your cleaning preferences using the iRobot app, which gives suggestions based on your house and season (like running it more often during allergy season). The high-efficiency filter of the robot traps 99 per cent of allergens including dust mites, mold, fur from cats and dogs. It also features a cliff- and edge-sweeping sensor, four brushes (including an edge brush, two multi-surface long brushes and two multi-surface long multi-surface brushes) and a tracker for the floor to ensure it stays in its route.

In our tests the i3+ EVO was able to clean our floors quickly and efficiently. It easily transitioned from carpet to rugs and back again and had any issues crossing the metal or wooden trim that separates different types of flooring. It did get into a few objects, like pet toys, handbags and shoes, but it was able to maneuver around them. It missed a few spots of dirt on the carpet, however it did pick up pet hair elsewhere.

The i3+ EVO is a great choice for homes with carpeting, but isn't up to the task when it comes to removing crumbs and larger debris. It's not able to remove pet hair from carpeting, and may not be the ideal choice for those who want to replace their traditional vacuum cleaner with an automated. It also lacks the superior obstacle-avoiding capabilities of premium Roombas like the J7+ and S9+, which could make it more likely to fall into pet waste and spread it on floors.

2. Roomba J7+

This is a great robot vacuum for those who have a mixture of carpet and hard floors. Its standout feature is obstacle detection that cleverly avoids things like furniture legs, and even pet dander. It also does a great job at cleaning hard floors and picking up long hairs that get stuck in the brush.

The Roomba J7+ is unlike other robots in that it is able to adjust its suction power. This is done via the app. It also has a good map editor, and a section for favourites. The j7+ also is quite quiet, especially when it comes to more expensive flooring options. It can keep up with manual vacuuming.

In our tests, we found that the j7+ was able to pick up more dirt on carpeted and hard surfaces and also did better in crevices. The only issue was that it did not perform as well in the longer human hair test, which is common with all robots.

The j7+ is equipped with a self-emptying Clean Base that is able to automatically transfer dirt from the bin into the dirt bag once it docks. This helps reduce the requirement for manual maintenance and is ideal for those with allergies. The j7+ can also be linked with IRobot's Braava Jet M-Series mop robot via its Imprint Link functionality and will automatically restart mopping once the vacuuming process is completed.

3. Roomba i7+

Watching the i7+ clear a room is a mesmerizing experience. It follows a pattern that is similar to how a lawn-care professional trims a sports field before an event. It will occasionally return to the dock to empty its trash bin or charge its batteries. This feature, which allows the vacuum to empty itself, is a great addition that eliminates the requirement for manual maintenance.

It has a powerful suction, which enables it to effortlessly remove dirt and pet hair. It is able to pick up the majority of debris even on carpets with a high pile in just one sweep. It can also detect areas that are prone to traffic and then spend more time there. This is particularly useful for families with pets or children who are bringing in a lot of dirt from outside.

Another great feature is Smart Mapping, which allows the i7+ to understand the arrangement of Upgrade Your Cleaning with iRobot Roomba j6+ home and then create an individual floor map as it vacuums. After four hours of testing, the i7+ was able to navigate my two-bedroom flat efficiently and logically. You can further tweak the mapping using the app by adding virtual boundaries and giving rooms names. This means that you can program the i7+ to sweep around the cat's litter box every morning, or stay clear of the living room sofa after everyone has gone to bed.

The i7+ is also equipped with a side brush and a tangle-free spinning squeegee, which are both good for removing debris that might otherwise be left on the ground. It also has a battery with Recharge and Resume technology, meaning it can pick up exactly where it left off in the previous cleaning session, in the event that you let it charge.

4. Roomba 694

The 694 is an excellent basic robot for anyone looking to make their home more tidy and without the advanced automation features that higher-end models have. It learns your habits of cleaning to suggest schedules, and works with Google Assistant and Alexa voice assistants that allow you to start a cleaning session with just one click and can be operated using the iRobot app.

It can also overflow its dirt compartment as it fills. It doesn't do as well on carpets with low pile, but it still scores better than other robot vacuums of this price.

It is extremely effective in cleaning hair from pets. However, some hairs could get caught in the side brush. Its inability to handle kitty litter is also a cause of concern, even though it still scored the same as other robots in this category. It topped our top pick (the Roborock S4 Max) by 19 points. The 694 is a bit more than the eufy RoboVac 30C but feels more durable, requires less maintenance, has a lower recurring cost, charges faster, and performs better on high-pile and bare floors. It also has a bigger dustbin and can be used with or without internet access.

5. Eufy 11s

The eufy 11s is among of the cheapest robot vacuums on the market and is a good pick if you need an easy and reliable machine. This model can remove pet hair, dust and other debris from hard and low-pile floors. It also does a great job of maneuvering around obstacles and furniture. Its slim profile makes it easy to reach under furniture with low clearances like couches, coffee tables and other items. It is also among the quietest robot vacuums we have test-driven.

But that's all it is - this is one of the most pared-back models we've seen, and it lacks certain features that are found on more expensive competitors. For example, it doesn't work using an app, so you'll have to manually set the schedule using the remote control. It does not include an alert for the level of battery or a dust bin alert. You'll have to manually empty the trash bin when needed.

Despite its cost it is very well-built and easy to maintain. It has a long battery life, and it performs well on bare floors and around obstacles. In our tests it was able overcome obstacles with low levels, such as electrical cords more easily than the Roomba 694 or Shark Ion robots, but it had trouble with carpets with high pile.

Although the eufy 11s is superior to the ONSON GOOVI F007, we recommend going with the more expensive option when you can afford it. The iRobot Roomba 694 is easier to maintain, incurs lower charges for recurring maintenance, and provides a longer maximum battery life. It also performs better on bare floors and in maneuvering around furniture, and has a much larger dustbin.
