Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots that vacuum and mop also come with a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or robot hoover at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would think from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to organize an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
