It's also costly, but it has the features and performance to justify the cost.

The design of this robot addresses some problems we've encountered with other robotic vacuum cleaner reviews mops and vacuum units, including brushes that get caught in hair and the brush not being able enough to reach the flooring underneath furniture. The sweeping capabilities are impressive on carpets and bare flooring. The vacuum/mop has an excellent level of debris collection and the mop is able to quickly soak up bare floors.

The mops also have an advanced system for cleaning along the edges of furniture and around walls. The robot can easily avoid obstacles like toys, food bowls and backpacks. But it can become stuck or entangled with smaller and flatter objects such as shoelaces, USB cables, and pens.

This robot was used to vacuum and mop hardwood floors, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in a huge open-plan home. With FREO Mind enabled, it cleaned and mopped the 90m2 area in about 170 minutes that's close to the average for Gen 4.

The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test of how well it was able to clean baking powder near corners and baseboards. Its suction of 2,500Pa was weaker than the other robots, however it was still very silent and moved swiftly. It did not mop and its clean pad was difficult to attach. It also wasn't able to take on dirt that had dried up.

The app is basic, lacking advanced features like multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It supports Alexa however its voice commands don't seem to be very clear or responsive. Also, it's a bit difficult when it comes to returning to the charging station after an outing -- other robots can trace a previous path or sensibly follow a wall around until they get to their home however, the RX3 simply bumbles around until it finally gives up and sends a message of failure to your phone.

We also experienced issues with the intelligent features of the device, such as its mapping feature and the digital stay-out zones. While it did a great job of avoiding our furniture legs and shoes however, it was easily hung up by cables and socks and it was not able to manage the tassels that adorn carpets. That's the reason we didn't choose to include it in our Best Buy list. However, with a reasonable price and impressive performance, the Scout RX3 is worth considering if you're looking for a smarter alternative to the traditional uprights.
